Kicking off our adventure with a bit of spontaneity, we decided to skip the usual tourist trails and dive straight into the hidden marvel that is Puerto Galera on Mindoro Island, Philippines. Our journey started with a car ride from Manila, cruising for about 2.5 hours to reach Batangas Port. This part of the trip requires a bit of planning, especially considering how packed the port parking can get during the busy seasons. We were lucky to easily find a spot.
The Ferry Adventure
Booking ferry tickets in advance wasn't on our agenda, so we grabbed them right at the port. Ferries to Puerto Galera are pretty frequent, making it a straightforward hop to the island. The ride-over can be a bit bumpy, especially on windy days, so if you're someone who gets seasick, it's a good idea to have some medication handy.
Arriving in Puerto Galera
Landing in Puerto Galera, the lively port instantly welcomed us with its stunning views and vibrant atmosphere. Tricycles were lined up, ready to whisk away newcomers to their accommodations. Here’s a tip: choose a newer tricycle for a smoother ride over the island’s hilly terrain.

Edgewater Resort: A Tropical Welcome
Our stay was at the Edgewater Resort, nestled about 15 to 20 minutes away from the port. The journey there offered a glimpse into local life, taking us past markets and homes, over a mix of paved and unpaved roads. The resort itself was a slice of paradise, with lush greenery and panoramic sea views greeting us upon arrival. Our rooms were cozy and equipped with all the essentials, providing a comfortable base for our adventures.

Sunset
After settling in, we couldn't resist heading to the resort’s restaurant for a delightful lunch. Later, a walk to the beach to catch the sunset was in order. Puerto Galera’s sunset did not disappoint, adding another layer of magic to our island experience.
A Day of Adventure
The next day was action-packed. Starting with breakfast, we then hit the beach, indulging in some fun on Sea-Doos and enjoying the vibrant beach atmosphere. After lunch at a local spot, we were off to our next adventure: zip-lining.

The trip concluded with another lovely dinner at the resort, followed by a peaceful night's rest. Our departure the next morning was bittersweet, marking the end of our Puerto Galera adventure but leaving us with memories to cherish.
Reflecting on Puerto Galera
Puerto Galera proved to be an enriching experience, offering a blend of adventure and relaxation. While it might not top the list of places to revisit given the plethora of stunning destinations in the Philippines, it's certainly worth recommending, especially for those seeking a budget-friendly adventure before heading back home. Puerto Galera showcased the beauty of exploring new places, embracing adventure, and the serenity of nature, making it a memorable part of our journey.
